About Suzuki TS
The Suzuki TS name identifies a broad family of dual-purpose motorcycles rather than one model. Introduced in 1969, the series combined road equipment with features suited to unpaved tracks, including upright riding positions, long-travel suspension, spoked wheels, high-mounted exhausts and trail-style tyres.
Most early TS motorcycles used air-cooled, single-cylinder two-stroke engines. The range covered several capacity classes, from lightweight TS50, TS75, TS80, TS90 and TS100 versions to the widely recognised TS125, TS185, TS250 and TS400. Regional names included Duster for the TS125, Sierra for the TS185, Savage for the TS250 and Apache for the TS400, although naming and availability differed between markets.
The line evolved through several technical phases rather than uniform global generations. Early piston-port and rotary-valve designs were followed by revised ER models, while later X and R variants introduced more modern chassis layouts and, on selected versions, liquid cooling, power valves and six-speed transmissions. Notable examples include the TS250X, TS125R and TS200R.
Within Suzuki’s motorcycle range, the TS sat between road bikes and competition-focused motocross or enduro machines. It became known for manageable dimensions, straightforward mechanical design and practical on-road and off-road versatility.
