About Suzuki SV
The Suzuki SV is a family of road motorcycles centred on compact, liquid-cooled 90-degree V-twin engines. It began with the Japan-market SV400 and SV400S in 1998, followed by the internationally sold SV650 and half-faired SV650S in 1999. The SV650 became the best-known member of the range, combining a middleweight engine with a slim chassis and straightforward street-bike design.
A second-generation SV650 arrived in 2003 with revised styling, fuel injection and a new frame. In many markets, it was later replaced by the related SFV650 Gladius before the SV650 name returned on a redesigned model in 2016. Major variations have included naked and S versions, models with ABS, and the SV650X, which added café-racer-inspired bodywork and lower handlebars. The larger SV1000 and SV1000S joined the family in 2003 with a 995 cc V-twin and stronger performance.
Within Suzuki’s motorcycle line-up, the SV has occupied the versatile roadster and street-sport position below the brand’s more specialised GSX-R machines. It is known for linear torque, manageable dimensions, agile handling and an upright, practical riding character. These qualities have made the SV650 suitable for commuting, touring, rider training and recreational sport riding, while retaining a distinctive V-twin feel.
