About Suzuki Solio
The Suzuki Solio is a compact five-seat tall wagon designed mainly for the Japanese market. Its lineage began in 1997 with the Wagon R Wide, a larger, wider relative of Suzuki’s kei-class Wagon R. The model later became the Wagon R+ and Wagon R Solio before adopting the standalone Solio name in 2005.
Successive redesigns in 2010, 2015 and 2020 moved the Solio away from its Wagon R origins and established it as a distinct compact passenger vehicle. It is known for combining a short, narrow body with a high roof, a spacious cabin and flexible seating. Rear sliding doors, easy access and good urban manoeuvrability are central to its practical character.
The range has included front-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive versions, along with conventional petrol, mild-hybrid and full-hybrid powertrains depending on generation and specification. The Solio Bandit, introduced in 2012, provides a more assertive exterior and a higher-grade appearance while retaining the same basic packaging concept.
Within Suzuki’s Japanese lineup, the Solio sits above kei tall wagons such as the Spacia but below larger multi-purpose vehicles. It serves buyers seeking more cabin width and performance than a kei car without moving to a conventional compact MPV. Its main qualities are efficient use of space, compact dimensions, everyday versatility and family-friendly access.
