About Suzuki Mehran
The Suzuki Mehran was a small five-door hatchback produced in Pakistan by Pak Suzuki from 1989 until 2019. Derived from the second-generation Suzuki Alto, it replaced the Suzuki FX and occupied the entry-level position in the brand’s local passenger-car range. Its compact size and straightforward design made it particularly suited to basic urban transport.
Rather than passing through several distinct generations, the Mehran retained the same basic platform and box-shaped body throughout its long production run. Changes were mainly limited to trim, exterior details, equipment and mechanical updates. Most versions used a 796 cc three-cylinder petrol engine with a four-speed manual transmission. Major variants included the basic VX and better-equipped VXR, while CNG versions were also offered. Later Euro II models introduced electronic fuel injection and updated emissions equipment.
The Mehran became one of Pakistan’s best-known economy cars and was long positioned among the country’s least expensive locally manufactured vehicles. It is noted for simple mechanical construction, low operating costs, wide parts availability and ease of repair, although comfort, safety equipment and refinement remained basic. Production ended in 2019, after which the locally built 660 cc Suzuki Alto assumed its role in Pak Suzuki’s range.
