About Suzuki Ignis
The Suzuki Ignis is a small hatchback-crossover designed to combine city-car dimensions with a raised driving position and SUV-inspired versatility. The name first appeared in 2000 on a compact passenger car sold in three- and five-door forms, with front- or four-wheel drive depending on the version. A substantially redesigned Ignis entered production in Hungary in 2003.
Early models were known for practical packaging and easy manoeuvrability. The range also included the 1.5-litre Ignis Sport, a lightweight performance version influenced by Suzuki’s participation in the Junior World Rally Championship.
Suzuki revived the name for a new mini crossover launched in Japan in 2016 and subsequently introduced in Europe, India and other markets. This iteration uses a lightweight platform and focuses on compact exterior dimensions, good visibility, useful ground clearance and flexible cabin space. Major variations include front-wheel-drive and ALLGRIP four-wheel-drive models, while selected markets offer a 1.2-litre DUALJET petrol engine with Suzuki’s SHVS mild-hybrid system.
