About Suzuki Celerio

The Suzuki Celerio is a small five-door hatchback developed mainly for urban transport and value-focused buyers. The modern model debuted in India in 2014 as a global compact car, although the Celerio name had previously appeared on exported versions of the Alto/A-Star in some markets. Production has been centred largely in India through Maruti Suzuki.

The 2014 Celerio established the model as a practical entry-level car below larger Suzuki hatchbacks such as the Swift. It became especially notable for introducing Suzuki’s Auto Gear Shift automated manual transmission to India, providing two-pedal driving through a simpler system than a conventional automatic. Depending on market and year, variations included petrol engines, manual or automated manual gearboxes, factory CNG models and a short-lived diesel version. The CelerioX added crossover-inspired exterior details.

A fully redesigned Celerio arrived in 2021 with rounder styling, more cabin and luggage space, and an updated 1.0-litre petrol engine. Specifications vary by country, but the model is known for compact dimensions, efficient everyday motoring, a usefully roomy interior and relatively low running costs. Within Suzuki’s range, it serves as a straightforward city hatchback for buyers who prioritise economy and ease of use over performance or premium features.
