About Suzuki Cappuccino
The Suzuki Cappuccino is a two-seat kei sports car marketed from 1991 to 1998. Developed within Japan’s kei vehicle regulations, it gave Suzuki a distinctive rear-wheel-drive roadster alongside the brand’s practical small cars and compact 4x4s. Its small dimensions, low weight and turbocharged 657 cc three-cylinder engine made it a specialised, driver-focused model rather than a mainstream commuter car.
Sold as a single generation, the Cappuccino is generally divided into EA11R and EA21R versions. Early EA11R cars use the F6A DOHC turbo engine, while the EA21R update introduced in 1995 has the lighter, all-aluminium K6A turbo engine. A five-speed manual transmission was the main choice, with a three-speed automatic added for the later version.
The Cappuccino is known for its front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout, double-wishbone suspension and four-wheel disc brakes. Its removable roof system allows hardtop, T-bar, targa and fully open configurations. Although developed mainly for Japan, the model was officially offered in selected export markets, including the UK. It remains notable as one of Suzuki’s clearest examples of lightweight sports-car engineering, combining kei-car packaging with traditional roadster proportions and mechanical simplicity.
