About Suzuki Alto Lapin
The Suzuki Alto Lapin is a five-door kei hatchback introduced in Japan in 2002. Developed from Suzuki’s Alto family, it occupies a more design-focused position than the standard Alto. Its compact dimensions suit crowded streets and limited parking, while its box-shaped body provides practical passenger and luggage space. The name “Lapin” is French for rabbit, reflected in the model’s badges and visual details.
Three generations have appeared. The original model was produced from 2002 to 2008, followed by the second generation from 2008 to 2015. The third generation arrived in 2015 and remains the basis of the current model. Each retained the characteristic upright profile, rounded forms and interior styling inspired by furniture, household objects and personal accessories.
Notable variations have included the early Turbo, sporty SS and Canvas Top, as well as the second-generation Chocolat. The retro-influenced Lapin LC joined the range in 2022 as a more traditional-looking alternative. A 2025 update introduced a mild-hybrid powertrain and revised safety technology while retaining the established design theme. Known mainly as a Japanese-market city car, the Alto Lapin combines kei-car economy and manoeuvrability with a distinctive, carefully detailed cabin and exterior.
