About Subaru Stella
The Subaru Stella is a Japanese-market kei car introduced in 2006. It is a tall, five-door small wagon designed to combine the compact exterior dimensions required by Japan’s kei regulations with a relatively spacious and flexible cabin. Within Subaru’s domestic range, it serves as one of the brand’s smallest and most practical passenger cars, aimed mainly at urban travel, everyday errands and family use.
The first generation was developed by Subaru and shared elements with the R1 and R2. It used a 660 cc four-cylinder engine, a continuously variable transmission and four-wheel independent suspension. Standard Stella and sportier Stella Custom versions were offered, with naturally aspirated and supercharged engines available across the range.
From the second generation, launched in 2011, the Stella became an OEM model supplied by Daihatsu and based on the Move. A third generation followed in 2014, continuing the regular and Custom variations with front- or four-wheel drive.
The fourth generation arrived in 2025 with a revised model structure comprising L, G, Z and turbocharged ZS grades. It introduced rear sliding doors, updated Smart Assist safety technology and a new platform. The Stella is known primarily for efficient packaging, easy manoeuvrability, good visibility and useful rear-seat flexibility rather than performance or off-road ability.
