About Subaru Lucra
The Subaru Lucra is a tall kei passenger car sold in Japan from 2010 to 2015. It was supplied to Subaru by Daihatsu under an OEM agreement and was closely related to the Daihatsu Tanto Exe. The model gave Subaru a practical, comfort-focused entry in Japan’s tightly regulated kei-car class.
Only one generation was produced, although Subaru introduced equipment, styling and powertrain updates during its lifespan. The range comprised the standard Lucra and the Lucra Custom. Standard versions used softer, more understated styling, while Custom models featured a more assertive front design, darker interior trim and additional sporty details.
Power came from 660 cc three-cylinder petrol engines. Naturally aspirated models prioritised everyday economy, while the Lucra Custom RS used a turbocharged engine for stronger performance. Depending on model year and grade, buyers could choose front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, with CVT or automatic transmissions.
The Lucra is mainly known for packaging substantial cabin space within compact exterior dimensions. Its tall body provided generous headroom, while sliding and reclining rear seats allowed passenger and luggage space to be adjusted. Wide-opening doors, useful storage areas and a small turning circle supported urban and family use.
Within Subaru’s Japanese lineup, the Lucra occupied the spacious tall-wagon end of the kei segment. Its appeal centred on comfort, accessibility and manoeuvrability rather than the performance or off-road character associated with many larger Subaru models.
