About Subaru Exiga
The Subaru Exiga is a mid-size, five-door vehicle combining seven-seat practicality with the lower profile and road manners of a large estate car. Introduced in Japan in June 2008, it was intended for drivers needing three rows of seats without choosing a tall, conventional minivan.
The Exiga remained within one YA-series generation, although updates changed its styling, equipment and powertrains. Versions included naturally aspirated and turbocharged 2.0-litre flat-four engines, followed by a 2.5-litre flat-four and continuously variable transmission. Depending on model and year, front-wheel drive or Subaru’s all-wheel-drive system was fitted. Later grades offered EyeSight driver-assistance technology.
A notable limited derivative was the sportier Exiga tS developed with STI. In 2015, the range evolved into the Exiga Crossover 7, which added SUV-style body protection, roof rails and a more rugged appearance while retaining seven seats and all-wheel drive. It positioned the model closer to Subaru’s crossover range.
Produced until 2018, the Exiga is known for its flexible three-row cabin, good outward visibility, flat-four engines and car-like handling. It occupied a distinctive place in Subaru’s line-up as a family-focused alternative to both estate cars and conventional Japanese MPVs.
