About smart #1
The smart #1 is a five-seat battery-electric compact crossover that marked a major change in direction for smart. Unveiled in 2022, it was the first compact SUV from the renewed brand and moved beyond the ultra-small city cars for which smart had previously been best known. Initial customer deliveries began in China, followed by European markets.
Developed under the joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and Geely, the #1 combines exterior and interior design led by the Mercedes-Benz global design team with Geely-supported engineering and production in China. It uses Geely’s electric-focused SEA platform and has a relatively long wheelbase for its compact exterior dimensions, supporting a roomy cabin, five usable seats and flexible luggage space with a sliding rear bench.
Versions vary by country and have included Pure, Pure+, Pro, Pro+, Premium and the limited Launch Edition. Pulse adds twin-motor all-wheel drive, while the BRABUS model provides the highest performance and sportier styling. Rear-wheel-drive models form the core of the range. Known for connected technology, over-the-air software updates, driver-assistance features and practical packaging, the #1 established the template for smart’s modern electric SUV line-up and competes in the premium compact EV market.
