About Saturn SKY

The Saturn SKY is a compact two-seat roadster offered for the 2007–2010 model years. It gave Saturn a dedicated sports car and served as a low-volume image model alongside the brand’s mainstream cars and crossovers. Production took place at General Motors’ Wilmington, Delaware, plant and ended in 2009 as GM wound down Saturn and closed the factory.

Built on GM’s rear-wheel-drive Kappa architecture, the SKY shared its basic structure with the Pontiac Solstice but featured distinct, sharply creased bodywork. Its traditional roadster layout combined a front-mounted four-cylinder engine, two seats and a manually operated folding soft top.

The standard SKY used a naturally aspirated 2.4-litre Ecotec engine rated at 177 hp. The performance-focused SKY Red Line added a turbocharged, direct-injected 2.0-litre Ecotec producing 260 hp, together with upgraded performance and appearance features. Both versions were available with five-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmissions.

The SKY is known for its angular styling, compact proportions and rear-wheel-drive handling. Practicality is limited by its small cabin and restricted luggage space, particularly when the roof is lowered. Its short production run and lack of a direct successor make it one of the most distinctive models in Saturn’s lineup.
