About Saturn L-Series

The Saturn L-Series was the brand’s first mid-size passenger car, introduced for the 2000 model year and offered through 2005. It broadened Saturn’s range beyond the compact S-Series, giving buyers a larger, more conventional family car. The line included a four-door sedan and a five-door station wagon, both with front-wheel drive.

Built in Wilmington, Delaware, the L-Series used architecture related to the European Opel Vectra. Early sedans were sold as the LS, LS1 and LS2, while wagons used LW1 and LW2 names. From 2001, the main designations became L100, L200 and L300 for sedans, with LW200 and LW300 for wagons. Later versions were consolidated under the L300 name, and the wagon was dropped for the final model year.

Power came from a 2.2-litre four-cylinder engine or a 3.0-litre V6, depending on year and trim. Manual and automatic transmissions were available initially, although later models were automatic only. A styling update arrived for 2003.

The L-Series is known for its roomy cabin, useful wagon option, independent suspension and choice between economical four-cylinder power and stronger V6 performance. It retained Saturn features such as dent-resistant polymer side panels while moving the brand into the competitive mainstream mid-size market.
