About Saab 9-2X

The Saab 9-2X is a compact five-door wagon sold in the United States and Canada for the 2005 and 2006 model years. It was based on the second-generation Subaru Impreza and built in Japan by Fuji Heavy Industries, Subaru’s parent company at the time. Developed during the General Motors–Fuji Heavy Industries partnership, it combined Subaru engineering with Saab-specific exterior styling, interior details, chassis tuning and additional sound insulation.

All versions featured a horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine and all-wheel drive. For 2005, the range consisted of the naturally aspirated 2.5-litre Linear and the performance-oriented Aero with a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine. In 2006, the Linear became the 2.5i, while the Aero received a turbocharged 2.5-litre engine. Manual and automatic transmissions were available.

Positioned below the 9-3, the 9-2X gave Saab a smaller and more accessible model for North American buyers. It is known for compact dimensions, practical cargo space, secure all-weather traction and responsive handling, with the Aero offering notably stronger performance. Its Subaru origins distinguish it from traditional Saab models, while its short production run makes it one of the less common vehicles in the brand’s modern lineup.
