About Rolls-Royce Silver Spur
The Rolls-Royce Silver Spur is a full-size luxury saloon introduced in 1980 as the long-wheelbase companion to the Silver Spirit. Built at Crewe, England, it offered additional rear-seat space while retaining the formal four-door body, rear-wheel-drive layout and traditional character of Rolls-Royce’s principal saloon range.
Positioned for owners who valued chauffeur-driven comfort as well as private use, the Silver Spur occupied a highly exclusive place in the line-up. It was powered by Rolls-Royce’s 6.75-litre V8 and used an automatic transmission. Its emphasis was on smooth, quiet progress rather than sporting performance.
The range evolved through the original Silver Spur, Silver Spur II and Silver Spur III, followed by substantially revised final-series cars in the late 1990s. Changes over time included updated suspension, fuel injection, transmission technology, interior equipment and exterior detailing. Special variations included Mulliner Park Ward and Touring Limousine models with further body and cabin modifications.
The Silver Spur is particularly known for its extended rear compartment, soft ride and restrained formal styling.
