About Rivian R1T
The Rivian R1T is a five-seat, all-electric pickup designed to combine daily usability, high performance and off-road ability. Customer deliveries began in September 2021, making it one of the earliest modern electric pickups to reach the US market. It is produced at Rivian’s plant in Normal, Illinois, alongside the related R1S SUV and the company’s commercial vans.
As Rivian’s flagship truck, the R1T occupies the premium electric pickup segment. Its dimensions fall between conventional mid-size and full-size trucks, balancing cabin and cargo space with urban manoeuvrability. Notable features include a front trunk, a transverse Gear Tunnel behind the cab, adjustable air suspension and a software-focused cabin that supports over-the-air updates.
Early vehicles were closely associated with a four-motor all-wheel-drive layout. Rivian later added its own Dual-Motor system and a choice of battery packs. A substantially reengineered second generation arrived for the 2025 model year, retaining the familiar exterior while updating the electrical architecture, computing platform, efficiency and driver-assistance hardware. The range includes Dual-, Tri- and Quad-Motor versions, providing different balances of range, output and off-road control.
Known for rapid acceleration, strong traction, useful towing capacity and versatile storage, the R1T serves as the pickup counterpart to the R1S and remains central to Rivian’s adventure-focused R1 lineup.
