About Ram Dakota
The Ram Dakota is a mid-size pickup nameplate with roots in the earlier Dodge Dakota. It moved into the newly established Ram truck range for its final North American model years, ending production in 2011. That generation used a separate-frame platform and was offered with extended- and crew-cab bodies, rear- or four-wheel drive, and V6 or V8 petrol engines. Trims included work-focused ST, mid-level Big Horn and better-equipped Laramie versions.
Ram revived the Dakota for South America in 2025, with production at Stellantis’ Córdoba plant in Argentina and a Brazilian launch in 2026. The current model is a double-cab, body-on-frame pickup powered by a 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and selectable four-wheel drive with low range. Warlock versions have darker, off-road-inspired detailing, while Laramie models use a more refined appearance; a Laramie Night Edition is also offered in Brazil.
Within Ram’s regional range, the Dakota sits between the smaller Rampage and the full-size 1500. It competes in the established mid-size pickup class, combining a one-tonne-class payload, substantial towing ability and off-road hardware with a passenger-oriented cabin. The model is known for balancing work capability with everyday comfort, modern driver-assistance systems and a more manageable size than Ram’s full-size trucks.
