About Ram 5500
The Ram 5500 is a Class 5 chassis-cab truck designed for commercial, fleet and specialist applications. It was introduced for the 2008 model year as the Dodge Ram 5500 and later adopted Ram branding when Ram became a separate truck division. Within the brand’s chassis-cab range, it sits above the 3500 and 4500 as the highest-capacity model.
Unlike a conventional pickup, the 5500 leaves the factory with an exposed rear frame for installation of a purpose-built body. Typical conversions include service and utility bodies, tow trucks, dump bodies, flatbeds, emergency vehicles and motorhome platforms.
