About Pontiac Vibe
The Pontiac Vibe was a compact five-door hatchback sold for the 2003–2010 model years. Its tall roof, flexible cargo area and crossover-inspired styling combined passenger-car road manners with the utility of a small wagon.
Developed through General Motors’ partnership with Toyota, the Vibe was closely related to the Toyota Matrix and used Corolla-based engineering. It was assembled at the NUMMI plant in Fremont, California. Within Pontiac’s range, it provided a practical alternative to the brand’s conventional sedans and sportier models, with an emphasis on efficiency, versatility and everyday use.
The first generation ran from 2003 to 2008. Depending on the model year, versions included the standard front-wheel-drive Vibe, an all-wheel-drive model and the performance-focused Vibe GT. The GT used a higher-output 1.8-litre engine and six-speed manual transmission.
A redesigned second generation arrived for 2009 and continued through 2010. It retained the five-door layout while gaining more substantial styling and a choice of 1.8- and 2.4-litre four-cylinder engines. Base, all-wheel-drive and GT variations were offered.
The Vibe is known for its compact exterior dimensions, roomy and adaptable cabin, fold-flat load floor and Toyota-derived mechanical basis. Production ended in 2009 as General Motors phased out Pontiac, making 2010 the final model year.
