About Pontiac G6

The Pontiac G6 is a front-wheel-drive midsize car sold for the 2005–2010 model years. It replaced the Grand Am and became Pontiac’s mainstream entry in the competitive family-car segment, positioned below the larger Grand Prix and later G8. Built in Michigan on General Motors’ Epsilon platform, it shared its basic engineering with several other GM midsize cars while featuring Pontiac-specific styling.

The G6 had one generation, but its range expanded significantly after launch. It began as a four-door sedan, with a two-door coupe and retractable-hardtop convertible added for 2006. Depending on the year and body style, buyers could choose four-cylinder or V6 power, automatic transmissions and, on some early performance versions, a manual gearbox. Trim levels included base, GT, GTP and GXP, with GTP and GXP variants offering stronger engines and more assertive exterior details.

The model is known for providing an unusually broad selection of body styles for a mainstream midsize car. The sedan focused on everyday practicality, the coupe added a sportier profile, and the convertible offered open-air driving with a folding metal roof. Equipment and styling evolved throughout production, including an update during 2009. Production ended as General Motors discontinued Pontiac, making the G6 one of the brand’s final high-volume models.
