About Pontiac G3

The Pontiac G3 was an entry-level subcompact car developed from General Motors’ global small-car programme. Closely related to the Chevrolet Aveo and Daewoo Kalos, it used a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout and was produced in South Korea rather than being a uniquely engineered Pontiac model.

Its name and availability varied by market. The G3 was sold in Mexico before reaching the United States, where it appeared only for the 2009 model year as a five-door hatchback. In Canada, the related Pontiac Wave became the G3 Wave for 2009 and then the G3 for 2010. Canadian and Mexican ranges also included a four-door sedan.

The model remained within one basic generation, with differences mainly involving body style, trim and market-specific equipment. North American versions typically featured a 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine paired with a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission.

Positioned below the G5, the G3 served as Pontiac’s smallest and most economical car. It was known for compact exterior dimensions, straightforward controls, a practical five-seat cabin and useful hatchback versatility. Its emphasis was affordable urban transport rather than the performance character associated with larger Pontiac models. Its brief US sales run and Pontiac’s closure in 2010 also make the G3 relatively uncommon there.
