About Plymouth Neon

The Plymouth Neon was a front-wheel-drive compact car sold for the 1995–2001 model years. Developed by Chrysler and closely related to the Dodge Neon, it served as Plymouth’s affordable small-car offering during the brand’s final period. Its rounded body, large glass area and compact exterior gave it a distinctive appearance among 1990s economy cars.

The first generation was available as a four-door sedan and two-door coupe, with Base, Highline and Sport trims joined by several appearance and performance packages. Most versions used a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with a five-speed manual or three-speed automatic transmission. A higher-output twin-cam engine was offered on selected early models. The redesigned 2000 Neon was larger and more refined, but the Plymouth version was sold only as a sedan.

Within Plymouth’s range, the Neon sat below the Breeze and focused on basic, economical transport rather than premium features. It was known for useful passenger space relative to its size, responsive handling and straightforward mechanical design. Plymouth production ended in 2001, while the related Dodge Neon continued. The final Plymouth built was a Neon, linking the model closely with the closing chapter of the marque.
