About Plymouth Breeze
The Plymouth Breeze was a front-wheel-drive, four-door mid-size sedan sold for the 1996–2000 model years. It replaced the Plymouth Acclaim and served as the brand’s mainstream family car alongside the smaller Neon. All examples belonged to a single generation and were assembled in Sterling Heights, Michigan.
Built on Chrysler’s JA platform, the Breeze was closely related to the Dodge Stratus and Chrysler Cirrus, collectively known as the “cloud cars”. Plymouth positioned it as the value-focused member of the group, with simpler equipment and fewer luxury or performance options than its corporate relatives. Its distinguishing features included Plymouth-specific front and rear styling.
The Breeze is known for its rounded, cab-forward design, five-passenger interior and relatively spacious cabin. A 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with a five-speed manual transmission formed the standard powertrain. A four-speed automatic was optional, while a 2.4-litre four-cylinder paired with the automatic became available on later models. Unlike the Stratus and Cirrus, the Breeze did not offer a V6.
Most cars were sold in base form. The Expresso package, offered for 1998 and 1999, added distinctive trim and upgraded convenience features. Production ended early in 2000 as Chrysler prepared to discontinue the Plymouth brand.
