About Plymouth Arrow Pickup
The Plymouth Arrow Pickup was a compact two-door truck sold in North America from 1979 to 1982. Built in Japan by Mitsubishi, it was based on the first-generation Mitsubishi Forte, also known in many markets as the L200. Chrysler offered a closely related version through Dodge as the D-50, later renamed Ram 50.
Introduced when smaller imported pickups were gaining ground, the Arrow Pickup gave Plymouth dealers an economical and manoeuvrable alternative to larger utility vehicles. It was unusual within a brand identified mainly with passenger cars, vans and the Trail Duster sport utility vehicle. The truck used a conventional cab-and-bed layout, rear-wheel drive and four-cylinder Mitsubishi engines. Manual and automatic transmissions were available, depending on model year and configuration.
The range included the standard Arrow and the better-equipped Arrow Sport. Engine choices included 2.0-litre and 2.6-litre units, with the larger engine providing stronger performance. Notable features included compact exterior dimensions, a passenger-car-style instrument panel, front coil springs, rear leaf springs and power-assisted front disc brakes. Its relatively short production run and Mitsubishi origins make it a distinctive part of Plymouth’s late-1970s and early-1980s lineup.
