About Oldsmobile Achieva
The Oldsmobile Achieva was a compact, front-wheel-drive car sold for the 1992–1998 model years. It replaced the Cutlass Calais and served as Oldsmobile’s entry in the North American compact-car market, positioned below the brand’s larger Cutlass models. Built on General Motors’ N platform, it was related to the Buick Skylark and Pontiac Grand Am.
The Achieva was produced in a single generation, with two-door coupe and four-door sedan body styles. A substantial update for 1996 brought revised interior design, additional safety equipment and a new 2.4-litre Twin Cam four-cylinder engine. The coupe was discontinued before the final model year, leaving the sedan to complete the model’s run.
Versions included the value-oriented S, better-equipped SL and sportier SC coupe. The limited-production SCX, offered for 1992 and 1993, was the most notable variation, using a high-output W41 version of Oldsmobile’s 2.3-litre Quad 4 engine and a five-speed manual transmission. Other models offered several Quad 4 engines, later 2.4-litre power, and 3.3- or 3.1-litre V6 options. Known for its broad range of practical and performance-focused configurations, the Achieva was succeeded by the Oldsmobile Alero for 1999.
