About Nissan Z

The Nissan Z is a two-seat, front-engine, rear-wheel-drive sports car and one of Nissan’s longest-running performance nameplates. It debuted in 1969 as the Fairlady Z in Japan and was sold as the Datsun 240Z in markets including North America. Its combination of accessible performance, long-bonnet styling and everyday usability helped establish Nissan as a global sports-car manufacturer.

Across seven generations, the line has included the S30 and S130 models, the Z31 and Z32 300ZX, the Z33 350Z, the Z34 370Z and the current Z. Earlier versions ranged from straightforward six-cylinder coupes to turbocharged, technology-focused grand tourers; selected generations also offered 2+2 or roadster body styles. Production paused after the Z32 era before the 350Z revived the series in 2002.

The modern Z continues the traditional two-seat coupe format and serves as Nissan’s core rear-wheel-drive sports car. Current versions use a twin-turbocharged V6 and include Sport, Performance and more focused NISMO variants. The model is known for strong acceleration, balanced handling, driver-oriented controls and styling references to earlier Z cars. Its market position combines established sports-car heritage with road-focused usability.
