About Nissan Tino

The Nissan Tino is a five-door compact MPV introduced in Japan in 1998. It reached Europe in 2000 as the Nissan Almera Tino, linking it with the brand’s established compact car range. European models were produced at Nissan’s Barcelona plant. The Tino gave Nissan a practical family vehicle for the rapidly growing compact MPV segment, positioned above conventional Almera hatchbacks in space and versatility.

The model remained within a single V10 generation. Depending on market and year, versions included 1.8- and 2.0-litre petrol engines, a 2.2-litre diesel and manual, automatic or continuously variable transmissions. A 2003 European update brought revised lighting, a redesigned dashboard and updated common-rail diesel options. Japan also received the Tino Hybrid in 2000, an early Nissan hybrid using lithium-ion battery technology.

The Tino is chiefly known for combining compact exterior dimensions with a high seating position and a flexible five-seat cabin. Its three separate rear seats could be adjusted, folded or removed to balance passenger and luggage space. Rather than emphasising performance or distinctive styling, it focused on everyday usability, family-friendly storage and straightforward road manners. Within Nissan’s period lineup, it served as the compact people-carrier alternative to traditional hatchbacks, estates and larger MPVs.
