About Nissan Teana
The Nissan Teana is a mid-size four-door sedan introduced in Japan in 2003. It was developed as a comfortable, spacious model for buyers seeking more refinement than a compact family sedan, without moving to Nissan’s larger rear-wheel-drive luxury cars. The Teana was marketed mainly in Japan, China, Russia and other Asian markets, while related versions used names including Maxima and Cefiro in selected countries.
Three principal generations were produced. The first-generation J31 established the model’s emphasis on a calm ride and a cabin inspired by a “modern living” concept. The J32 followed in 2008 with updated styling, equipment and powertrains. Introduced in 2013, the third-generation L33 became closely related to the Nissan Altima, reflecting greater platform and product integration within Nissan’s global sedan range. Later Chinese-market Teana models continued this Altima-based line.
Depending on generation and market, the Teana was offered with four-cylinder or V6 petrol engines, automatic or continuously variable transmissions, and mainly front-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive available on some Japanese versions. It is best known for generous passenger space, comfort-focused suspension, supportive seating and a relatively quiet cabin. Within Nissan’s lineup, it served as an upper-mid-size sedan positioned above models such as the Sylphy.
