About Nissan Sunny
The Nissan Sunny is a compact passenger-car nameplate introduced in Japan in 1966 as the Datsun Sunny 1000. Positioned below the Bluebird, it was created as an accessible family car and became one of Nissan’s most widely recognised small cars. The four-door saloon was the main format, although different markets also received two-door saloons, coupes, hatchbacks, estates, vans and pickups.
The rear-wheel-drive B10 was followed by the B110, B210 and B310 families. Nissan changed the Sunny to front-wheel drive with the B11 in the early 1980s, then continued the Japanese line through the B12, B13, B14 and B15 generations. Versions ranged from basic economy cars to better-equipped Super Saloon models and sportier coupes. Engines, trim levels and body styles varied considerably by year and region.
Sunny naming was not consistent worldwide. Related Nissan vehicles were sold as the Sentra, Pulsar or Almera in some countries, while certain European Sunny models came from the Pulsar family rather than the Japanese B-series. Within Nissan’s range, the Sunny generally occupied the practical and affordable end of the small or compact-car class. It is known for straightforward engineering, economical four-cylinder engines, useful interior space and modest running costs. Japanese production ended in 2004, but the name was later reused for market-specific compact saloons.
