About Nissan Stagea
The Nissan Stagea is a five-door touring wagon produced for the Japanese market from 1996 to 2007. It combined the passenger comfort of an executive car with a large, flexible luggage area, while offering rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive depending on the version. Within Nissan’s range, it served as a spacious and performance-focused alternative to conventional family wagons.
Two generations were built. The first, known as the WC34, arrived in 1996 and used RB-series inline-six engines, including naturally aspirated and turbocharged options. Its mechanical links to Nissan’s Laurel and Skyline families helped establish the Stagea’s reputation for strong performance and tuning potential. The Autech Version 260RS was the most notable derivative, pairing four-wheel drive and a manual transmission with the twin-turbo RB26DETT engine.
The M35 generation followed in 2001. It shared Nissan’s front-midship platform concept with the V35 Skyline and switched to VQ-series V6 engines. Its design placed greater emphasis on cabin space, refinement, handling stability and modern safety. Variations included turbocharged models, the raised AR-X and the luxury-oriented Axis. The Stagea remains known for blending estate-car practicality with Nissan’s rear-drive performance engineering.
