About Nissan Silvia
The Nissan Silvia is a compact, front-engine, rear-wheel-drive sports car best known as a two-door coupe. The first CSP311 appeared in 1965 as a low-volume, partly hand-built specialty model. After a production break, the name returned in 1975 and continued through seven generations until the S15 was discontinued in 2002.
Successive versions were identified by chassis codes including S10, S110, S12, S13, S14 and S15. Coupe and hatchback body styles were offered at different points, while engine choices included naturally aspirated and turbocharged four-cylinder units. The S13, introduced in 1988, established the form most closely associated with the Silvia: compact dimensions, clean styling, multi-link rear suspension and driver-focused handling. The larger S14 followed in 1993, and the S15 arrived in 1999 with sharper styling and refined performance. Depending on generation and market, related export models used names such as 200SX and 240SX.
Within Nissan’s range, the Silvia served as a smaller specialty sports model alongside the larger Fairlady Z. It became particularly valued for its responsive rear-wheel-drive chassis, relatively low weight and mechanical simplicity. Later turbocharged versions, especially the S13, S14 and S15, remain closely associated with tuning, circuit use and drifting.
