About Nissan Serena
The Nissan Serena is a mid-size minivan developed primarily for Japan and other selected Asian markets. Introduced in 1991 as the Vanette Serena, it helped establish Nissan in Japan’s growing family-minivan segment. Within the brand’s range, it sits below the larger, more premium Elgrand and focuses on everyday passenger space, flexibility and ease of use.
Six main generations have carried the C23, C24, C25, C26, C27 and C28 model codes. Over time, the Serena evolved from a semi-cab-over design into a modern front-engine family vehicle. Its tall body, sliding side doors and three-row cabin are designed for urban driving while providing seating for seven or eight occupants, depending on the version.
Powertrain choices have varied by generation and market. These include petrol engines, front- or four-wheel drive, the fuel-saving S-Hybrid system and Nissan’s e-POWER series-hybrid technology. Recent Japanese-market models also offer e-4ORCE electric four-wheel drive. Major versions include the standard Serena, the sportier Highway Star and the higher-specification e-POWER Luxion.
The Serena is known for a spacious cabin relative to its exterior size, flexible seating, good visibility and family-oriented storage and access features. It has also served as an important technology model for Nissan, including the introduction of ProPILOT driver assistance in 2016.
