About Nissan R'nessa
The Nissan R'nessa is a tall five-door station wagon developed mainly for the Japanese market. Introduced in 1997 and produced until 2001, it belonged to the N30 series and remained a single-generation model. Its design combined the road manners of an estate car with the raised body, long wheelbase and spacious cabin associated with an MPV.
Within Nissan’s late-1990s range, the R'nessa occupied a position between conventional wagons and larger minivans. Petrol versions included naturally aspirated 2.0-litre and 2.4-litre four-cylinder engines. Front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive were offered, depending on specification. The GT Turbo was the performance-oriented variation, pairing a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine with four-wheel drive.
The model is chiefly known for practical passenger space, a generous cargo area and a more car-like shape than many contemporary people carriers. An electric derivative was sold in Japan as the R'nessa EV and in North America as the Altra EV. Produced in limited numbers mainly for fleet use, it used lithium-ion batteries and formed part of Nissan’s early electric-vehicle development programme.
