About Nissan Rasheen
The Nissan Rasheen is a compact five-door 4WD model developed primarily for the Japanese market. Previewed at the 1993 Tokyo Motor Show and launched in 1994, it remained in production as a single generation until August 2000. Rather than being a traditional off-roader, the Rasheen combined passenger-car proportions and road manners with all-weather traction and SUV-inspired utility. Nissan considers it an early example of the casual crossover concept.
Initial versions used a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine. A 1.8-litre model joined the range with the 1997 update, offering stronger performance while retaining the compact body and four-wheel-drive layout. In 1998, Nissan introduced the Rasheen Forza, a sportier and more powerful variation fitted with a 2.0-litre engine and revised front-end styling. Manual and automatic transmissions were offered, depending on the engine and specification.
Within Nissan’s 1990s range, the Rasheen provided a city-oriented alternative to larger, more rugged SUVs. It is best known for its upright, rectangular body, compact footprint, practical five-seat layout and distinctive design-led character. Its blend of everyday usability, four-wheel drive and unconventional styling helped establish its lasting identity among Japanese-market Nissan models.
