About Nissan Pulsar

The Nissan Pulsar is a long-running small-car nameplate introduced in Japan in 1978. Across its original N-series generations, it was primarily a front-wheel-drive hatchback and saloon, although coupé, estate and commercial derivatives appeared in some periods and markets. Related versions were sold under other Nissan names in certain regions, so specifications and body styles vary considerably by year and country.

The N10 to N16 series evolved from a subcompact into a compact family car. Most versions focused on practical, affordable transport, while selected generations offered sportier variants. The best known is the N14 Pulsar GTI-R, launched in 1990 with a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine and all-wheel drive. Developed for Group A rally competition, it gave the otherwise mainstream Pulsar range a notable performance identity.

After the Japanese model ended in 2000, the Pulsar name continued for several years in Australia and New Zealand, then returned there in 2013 on saloon and hatchback models. Nissan also revived the badge in Europe for the C13, a five-door C-segment hatchback launched in 2014 and built in Barcelona. This version emphasised passenger space, practical packaging, turbocharged engines and available driver-assistance technology. European production ended in 2018.
