About Nissan Primastar
The Nissan Primastar is a medium-sized light commercial vehicle developed mainly for Europe. Introduced in 2002, it gave Nissan a presence in the core mid-size van class. It was created through Renault-Nissan cooperation and shares its underlying design and European production programme with the Renault Trafic.
The first generation remained available until 2014 and received a substantial update in 2006. Nissan used the NV300 name for its succeeding mid-size van from 2016, before reviving the Primastar badge in 2021 for the revised model. This is generally treated as the second Primastar generation. Within Nissan’s European commercial range, it sits between the smaller Townstar and larger Interstar.
Depending on market and model year, versions include panel vans, crew vans and passenger-focused Combi models. Different body lengths, roof heights, seating layouts and specialist conversions allow the Primastar to serve delivery fleets, trades and passenger transport. The range is primarily diesel-powered and front-wheel drive, with manual and automatic transmissions offered on later versions.
The Primastar is known for combining useful cargo capacity with manageable road dimensions. Sliding side doors, wide rear access and flexible load or seating arrangements support both urban work and longer journeys. Its alliance-based engineering and broad range of configurations make it an established part of Nissan’s light commercial vehicle lineup.
