About Nissan Platina
The Nissan Platina was a four-door subcompact saloon developed for Mexico through the Renault-Nissan Alliance. Introduced in April 2002, it was an adapted version of the Renault Clio sedan, also known internationally as the Renault Symbol. Production took place at Nissan’s Aguascalientes plant in Mexico.
The Platina occupied the affordable end of Nissan’s passenger-car range. It complemented the long-running Tsuru while offering a more modern, rounded design and a practical saloon layout. Its compact dimensions suited urban driving, while the separate luggage compartment added everyday usefulness for families and commercial users.
Only one Nissan-badged generation was produced, continuing through the 2010 model year with styling, trim and equipment updates rather than a complete redesign. Mexican-market cars were generally powered by a 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, paired with manual or automatic transmission depending on the version.
Trim structures changed over time. Versions included basic and better-equipped configurations, with later names such as Custom, Emotion and Premium. Equipment availability varied by year and could include air conditioning, power-operated features, anti-lock brakes and airbags. The Platina is chiefly known as a straightforward, economical small saloon that combined Renault-derived engineering with Nissan branding and dealer support.
