About Nissan Patrol
The Nissan Patrol is a full-size, body-on-frame 4x4 SUV and one of Nissan’s longest-running nameplates. Introduced in 1951 as the company’s first four-wheel-drive vehicle, it began as a rugged utility model and gradually developed into a spacious, premium three-row SUV. It occupies the flagship position in Nissan’s traditional off-road range, above the brand’s lighter crossover models.
Across seven generations, the Patrol has appeared in numerous forms. Earlier series included short- and long-wheelbase bodies, soft-top and hard-top models, wagons, vans and pickups, depending on the market. It was also sold as the Nissan Safari in Japan for part of its life. Later generations increasingly combined ladder-frame strength and serious off-road ability with improved comfort, refinement and technology.
The seventh-generation Patrol was introduced in 2024 and is produced in Kyushu, Japan. It replaced the previous V8-led formula with V6 engines, including a twin-turbo option, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. Regional ranges may include the standard Patrol, the off-road-focused PRO-4X and the performance-oriented NISMO. The model is particularly important in the Middle East, where it has a strong reputation for desert driving. It is also known for durability, a large cabin and the ability to handle demanding terrain while serving as a practical family vehicle.
