About Nissan NX
The Nissan NX is a compact front-wheel-drive 2+2 hatchback coupe introduced in 1990. Developed from Nissan’s B13 Sunny/Sentra family, it followed the Pulsar NX/EXA and Sunny coupe traditions while adopting smoother, rounded styling. It served as an accessible sporty model below Nissan’s larger, more powerful sports cars.
The NX had one principal generation, with names and specifications varying by market. North America received the NX1600 and higher-performance NX2000 for the 1991–1993 model years. In Europe it was sold mainly as the 100NX, while Japan used the Sunny NX Coupe name and several Asia-Pacific markets used NX Coupe. Production continued longer outside North America, into the mid-1990s.
All versions used four-cylinder engines and front-wheel drive. Depending on the market, engine capacities included 1.5, 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 litres, with manual or automatic transmissions. The NX1600 prioritised economy and everyday usability, while the NX2000 and European 2.0 GTI offered stronger performance from Nissan’s SR20DE engine and upgraded chassis equipment.
The model is known for its compact dimensions, oval headlamps, practical rear hatch and available removable T-bar roof panels. Its combination of Sunny/Sentra-based mechanicals, relatively low weight and distinctive coupe styling placed it among the affordable sport compacts of the early 1990s.
