About Nissan Leopard

The Nissan Leopard was a Japanese-market personal luxury car produced from 1980 to June 1999 across four generations. It occupied an upper-tier position in Nissan’s range, combining the comfort and equipment of an executive model with sportier styling and rear-wheel-drive handling.

The first-generation F30 was available as two-door and four-door hardtops. It was known for angular styling and advanced features, including electronic instruments and driver information systems. The second-generation F31 became a dedicated two-door luxury coupe, offered with naturally aspirated and turbocharged V6 engines. Export versions of the F31 were sold in North America as the Infiniti M30.

For 1992, the Leopard changed direction. The third-generation JPY32, named Leopard J. Ferie, was a four-door luxury sedan based on the Cedric and Gloria platform. Its rounded design differed sharply from the earlier coupes, while V6 and V8 versions emphasised refinement and performance. It was related to the Infiniti J30 sold overseas.

The final JY33 generation returned to a more conventional hardtop-sedan shape. It shared major components with contemporary Cedric and Gloria models and offered several V6 engines, including turbocharged and direct-injection units, plus an all-wheel-drive variation. Across its lifespan, the Leopard was known for distinctive design, generous equipment and an unusual blend of grand-touring character and executive-car comfort.
