About Nissan LEAF
The Nissan LEAF is a battery-electric passenger car introduced in 2010. It was among the first EVs sold globally in substantial numbers and became a central model in Nissan’s electrification programme. The first two generations were compact five-door hatchbacks designed mainly for commuting and family use.
The first generation gained larger battery options and more range over its life. The second arrived in 2017 with sharper styling, greater power, e-Pedal one-pedal driving and available ProPILOT assistance. Battery sizes varied by year and market, while longer-range versions were commonly called LEAF e+ or LEAF Plus.
The third generation launched in 2025, appearing as a 2026 model in some markets. It shifted towards a compact crossover format, using Nissan’s CMF-EV platform and a more aerodynamic, fastback-like body. Charging systems, specifications and trim names differ by region and model year.
LEAF production has taken place in Japan, the United States and the United Kingdom, with production of the third generation beginning in the UK. Within Nissan’s range, it has generally served as an accessible mainstream EV.
