About Nissan Laurel
The Nissan Laurel was a mid-size, upmarket passenger car produced from 1968 to 2002. Introduced above the Bluebird, it occupied the space between Nissan’s mainstream family models and its larger executive saloons. The original C30 helped establish Japan’s “high-owner car” category, combining manageable dimensions with more formal styling and equipment.
Eight generations were built, from the C30 through to the C35. Early Laurels were offered as four-door saloons and pillarless two-door hardtops, while later ranges concentrated on four-door saloon and hardtop bodies. The model was aimed mainly at the Japanese market, although selected generations were exported, sometimes under Datsun branding.
Powertrain choices varied considerably by generation and market. They included four- and six-cylinder petrol engines, diesel versions and turbocharged models. Rear-wheel drive was a defining feature, with four-wheel drive also available on some later variants. The Laurel shared important engineering links with other Nissan models, particularly the Skyline, but generally placed greater emphasis on comfort, refinement and understated styling.
Medalist versions represented the traditional luxury side of the range, while later Club S models adopted a sportier appearance and specification. The Laurel is especially known for its smooth six-cylinder engines, spacious cabin and balance between executive-car comfort and rear-wheel-drive handling.
