About Nissan Kubistar
The Nissan Kubistar is a compact light commercial van sold in Europe from 2003 to 2009. Developed through the Renault–Nissan Alliance, it was Nissan’s version of the first-generation Renault Kangoo, with European sales beginning in October 2003. Production took place at Renault’s Maubeuge plant in France. The model sat below the larger Primastar and Interstar in Nissan’s commercial vehicle range.
Produced in a single generation, the Kubistar was aimed mainly at trades, delivery fleets and small businesses. It was primarily offered as a front-wheel-drive panel van, with market-dependent choices of body length, payload rating, trim and door arrangement. Engine availability varied by country and model year, but included 1.2- and 1.6-litre petrol units and several versions of the 1.5 dCi diesel.
The Kubistar is known for its compact dimensions, straightforward controls and practical, box-shaped load area. Sliding side access and wide rear access suited frequent urban loading, while its car-derived layout made it easier to manoeuvre than a larger van. It occupied a modest but useful niche rather than being a standalone Nissan design. Production ended in 2009 as the NV200 assumed the compact-van role in Nissan’s European line-up.
