About Nissan Kicks
The Nissan Kicks is a five-seat subcompact crossover positioned near the entry point of Nissan’s SUV range. It combines the footprint and running costs of a small car with a raised driving position, flexible cargo space and SUV-inspired styling. The model is primarily intended for urban driving and buyers who do not require the size or capability of a larger crossover.
The production model debuted in Brazil in 2016 after development involving Nissan teams in Brazil, Japan and the United States. Manufacturing expanded to locations including Brazil and Mexico, supporting sales across the Americas and other regions.
The original generation used a front-wheel-drive layout in many markets and became known for its compact dimensions, relatively spacious cabin, distinctive two-tone colour options and emphasis on fuel economy. Updated versions added revised styling, infotainment and a broader range of driver-assistance features.
A redesigned generation arrived in North America for the 2025 model year. It is larger and more powerful than its predecessor and introduced available all-wheel drive, giving the Kicks a wider role within Nissan’s crossover line-up. The earlier design was also retained there for a period as the lower-priced Kicks Play.
Powertrains vary by region. Alongside conventional petrol versions, Nissan has offered the Kicks e-POWER in Japan and parts of Asia. This series-hybrid system uses a petrol engine to generate electricity while an electric motor drives the wheels. Regional production cycles and specifications therefore differ considerably.
