About Nissan Gloria
The Nissan Gloria was a Japanese executive car produced from 1959 to 2004. It began as the Prince Gloria, a more luxurious development of the Prince Skyline, and joined Nissan’s range after Prince Motor merged with Nissan in 1966. The model was developed mainly for the Japanese market and occupied an upper-tier position below Nissan’s flagship limousine models.
Across 11 generations, the Gloria evolved from a formal luxury saloon into a modern executive sedan. From the 230 generation introduced in 1971, it shared its basic design and engineering with the Nissan Cedric, while retaining distinct exterior details, equipment combinations and sales-channel identity.
Most generations were offered as four-door sedans or pillarless hardtops, with estate and commercial van versions also available during parts of the production run. Major variations included comfort-focused Brougham grades and sportier Gran Turismo models. Depending on the generation, the engine range included four- and six-cylinder petrol units, diesels, turbocharged engines and later V6 powertrains. Rear-wheel drive was traditional, while selected later versions offered all-wheel drive.
The Gloria is known for restrained styling, spacious interiors, smooth performance and a broad choice of luxury and sporting specifications. The final Y34 generation arrived in 1999, bringing more contemporary design and technology before the long-running Gloria name was retired in 2004.
