About Nissan Figaro
The Nissan Figaro is a compact two-door specialty car with an open-top roof design and distinctive retro-inspired styling. Presented at the 1989 Tokyo Motor Show and released in 1991, it was conceived as a design-led personal car rather than a conventional hatchback or sports model. Production was limited to 20,000 units, making the Figaro a short-run model from the outset.
It was the fourth of Nissan’s “Pike cars,” following the Be-1, Pao and S-Cargo. Within this group, the Figaro filled the role of a stylish open-top car. Its rounded body, white leather-trimmed cabin and specially designed instruments are central to its character. Beneath the classic appearance was a 987 cc turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 76 PS.
The Figaro existed as a single generation, identified by the FK10 model code, rather than as a long-running model family. Variation centred on four original exterior colours—Emerald, Pale Aqua, Lapis Gray and Topaz Mist—rather than multiple body styles or performance versions. Its compact dimensions, unusual design and limited production distinguish it as one of Nissan’s best-known niche vehicles and a notable example of the brand’s experimental approach during the Pike car era.
