About Nissan Cube

The Nissan Cube is a compact high-roof hatchback or small MPV introduced in Japan in 1998. Developed to provide generous cabin space within a short urban-friendly body, it occupied a position between Nissan’s conventional small hatchbacks and larger people carriers. Production continued until 2019.

Three generations were produced: the Z10, Z11 and Z12. The first-generation Z10 established the tall, square format, while the Z11 introduced the model’s best-known styling features, including rounded box-like proportions, an asymmetrical rear window and a side-hinged rear door. The second generation also formed the basis of the longer Cube Cubic, which added a third seating row. Front-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive versions were offered in Japan.

The third-generation Z12 retained the distinctive design while becoming the first Cube officially marketed on a wider international scale. It was sold in North America from the 2009 to 2014 model years and had a shorter European sales run, although Japan remained its main market.

The Cube is chiefly known for its unconventional appearance, upright seating, spacious interior and practical access. Within Nissan’s range, it served as a design-led alternative to ordinary compact cars, emphasising everyday usability and individuality rather than performance or traditional styling.
