About Nissan Clipper
The Clipper name first appeared on a Prince commercial truck in 1958 and continued under Nissan after the companies merged. The modern Clipper is a separate line introduced in Japan in 2003, designed for the kei class rather than the medium-duty truck market served by its namesake.
Modern versions have been sourced from other Japanese manufacturers. The first series was based on the Mitsubishi Minicab and offered as a compact van or cab-over pickup. A more passenger-focused Clipper Rio wagon joined the range later. From 2013, Nissan shifted to Suzuki-built vehicles: the truck became closely related to the Carry, while the van and Rio shared their foundations with the Every and Every Wagon. The names NV100 Clipper and NT100 Clipper were used for several years before Nissan simplified them to Clipper Van, Clipper Rio and Clipper Truck in 2024.
The range occupies the smallest utility-vehicle position in Nissan’s Japanese lineup. The Van prioritises enclosed cargo capacity and sliding-door access, the Truck provides an open load bed, and the Rio adds rear seating, greater comfort and passenger-oriented equipment.
Typical qualities include compact exterior dimensions, a tight turning circle, efficient 660 cc engines and practical, box-shaped packaging. Depending on version and model year, buyers can find two- or four-wheel drive, manual or automatic transmissions, and turbocharged Rio variants.
