About Nissan Cefiro

The Nissan Cefiro was a mid-size passenger car introduced in Japan in 1988. Positioned alongside the Skyline and Laurel, it combined executive-sedan comfort with more individual styling and, in its early form, a strong emphasis on driver appeal. The model was also sold across several Asian and other export markets.

Three principal generations were produced. The first-generation A31 was a rear-wheel-drive four-door sedan related to contemporary Skyline and Laurel models. It offered inline six-cylinder engines, including turbocharged versions, plus advanced options such as four-wheel steering and all-wheel drive. Its balanced chassis later made it particularly well known among drifting and tuning enthusiasts.

The A32, launched in 1994, marked a major change to front-wheel drive and V6 power. It placed greater emphasis on cabin space, refinement and everyday comfort. Sedan and five-door wagon versions were available, although the wagon was less common. The A33 followed in 1998 with similar front-wheel-drive architecture, updated styling and a more comfort-oriented character.

Depending on the market, related versions were sold under names including Maxima, Maxima QX and Infiniti I30. Within Nissan’s range, the Cefiro is best remembered as a spacious upper-mid-size model that evolved from a sporty rear-wheel-drive sedan into a refined V6 family and executive car.
